About this event

  • 147 days

The ITT Maths Leaders' Community is a group of established ITT providers across the local geographical region (North-Hants and Surrey) who are all committed to training new cohorts of both Primary and Secondary Maths teachers.

The ITT Maths Leaders' Community aims to:

  • Focus on a key collaborative research question
  • Build a broad community of ITT providers in the region to understand the key challenges of Teaching for Mastery at this stage
  • Identify areas of mutual need where collaboration can benefit all future ITT trainees, mentors and Maths leaders.

Key Research Question for 23/24

How can we foster collaboration within the ITT community to enhance the ability of trainee teachers in recognising instances of Teaching for Mastery while observing their mentors or fellow educators in action?

This emphasis does not revolve around the broader aspects of general teaching pedagogy, but rather centres on encouraging trainees to delve into the rationale behind the selection of a particular mathematical question, task or activity. Moreover, our focus will extend to investigating the integral role that these questions or tasks play in the teaching process, while also establishing connections with the 5 Big Ideas of Teaching for Mastery.

The ITT Maths Leaders' Community will meet three times over the year:

Online on Tuesdays, 4pm - 5pm:

6 February, 30 April and 2 July 2024

The community particpants will be invited to join the NEHS Maths Hub Basecamp online community for this Work Group in order to access resources and information. Please ensure you tick the box to confirm this when you register.
